Do not choose a Golf R based on the 300 vs 310 hp figure alone. The real dividing line is the engine build date: VW revised the timing chain tensioner design around 2016, and cars built after that point, in either the Mk7 or Mk7.5 tune, carry meaningfully lower chain risk. Ask the seller for the engine production date stamped on the block or in the ECU, not just the registration year, and confirm oil change intervals have been kept at or under 10,000 km regardless of which power output you are looking at.
