Do not choose a Passat B8 TDI purely on advertised hp. The bigger factor is whether the car is pre-2019 EA288 or the revised EA288 evo. The evo version moved the timing chain and reworked the turbo and EGR system, which addresses some of the early hardware weaknesses behind the failures and EGR complaints listed above. A 150hp evo-generation car is a safer buy than a 190hp pre-2019 car with unclear recall history. Ask for the build date and engine code suffix, confirm whether it is evo or pre-evo, and check recall completion before comparing power figures.
