Do not choose an EJ207 based on hp alone since all versions were officially capped at 280PS. The real differences between V6 through V9 are torque delivery, AVCS coverage, and turbo response, not reliability. Ringland and head gasket failure rates are similar across all sub-generations because the root cause is the engine's high cylinder pressure design and how hard it has been driven or tuned, not a part that was fixed at a specific model year. Judge any individual car on its documented maintenance history, timing belt status, and compression/leak-down results rather than which facelift it is.
