If originality and tuning headroom matter, prioritise a JDM 6-speed manual Spec R with its ball-bearing turbo over the automatic, since the auto's journal-bearing turbo and softer mapping give up some response and are less desirable for further tuning. Detuned NZ-market or export cars are mechanically identical underneath and not less reliable, they simply need an ECU or turbo upgrade to match JDM Spec R output.
