Do not judge a used Evo X purely by its claimed hp figure. A stock 280-291hp JDM or US car on unmodified internals is the lowest-risk buy for long-term reliability. Higher factory outputs like the Final Edition or genuine FQ-400 are only as safe as their documented hardware, the FQ-400 in particular carries forged internals and a bigger turbo specifically because the stock block cannot reliably sustain that power. If you find a car claiming FQ-400-level output or an aftermarket remap near or above 350whp without paperwork showing forged pistons and supporting hardware, treat it as a high-risk purchase regardless of how it drives on a test drive.
