Connect an OBD scanner and check live DPF soot mass load, reject if over 40g or if a recent forced regen is evident
Pull the dipstick and smell for diesel fuel contamination in the oil, indicating dilution from short-trip DPF cycles
Test drive at highway speed to confirm no limp mode activation and check for oil pressure warning lights
On AWD cars, inspect the rear differential for leaks and listen for clunking under light throttle and tight low-speed turns
Verify full service history with oil changes at or below 10,000 km intervals using correct low-SAPS spec oil
Activate both front and rear seat heaters and confirm they heat evenly without excessive heat or burning smell
Confirm whether the car is the FWD 150hp or AWD 175hp variant, this affects both drivetrain risk and resale value

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)
Ensure regular motorway runs for passive regen; have soot load checked via OBD if used mainly in city
80,000-150,000 km
Rear Differential (AWD models only)
Inspect fluid condition and check for leaks or noise before purchase and at each service
80,000-120,000 km
Oil Pressure System / Engine Internals
Check oil pressure at idle and under load; inspect oil for diesel dilution at every change
150,000-220,000 km
Cooling System (Thermostat / Water Pump)
Pressure test cooling system and inspect water pump condition, especially on pre-owned examples
80,000-130,000 km

High-revving diesel design with an unusually high redline for a diesel (up to 4,500 rpm)
Strong torque output (up to 420 Nm) for a 2.2L diesel, giving confident real-world performance
Low 14:1 compression ratio improves cold-start refinement and reduces diesel knock and NVH
Competitive fuel efficiency when driven on longer runs with regular DPF regeneration cycles
FWD 150hp variant has no rear differential, removing one of the engine family's known failure points

The hp figure itself does not change the engine's core oil pressure or DPF risk, both power tunes share the same SH-VPTS block. The real practical difference is drivetrain: the 150hp FWD variant has no rear differential at all, so it structurally cannot suffer the rear diff failures reported on AWD cars. If you do not need AWD, the FWD 150hp version removes one entire failure category from consideration. If you want AWD, budget specifically for rear differential inspection regardless of which power output you choose.
