Do not treat all B18C-badged engines as equal. The true Type R engines (B18C JDM/EDM, B18C6, B18C5) share forged internals, higher compression, and a more aggressive VTEC cam than the GS-R B18C1, which uses a cast crank and a milder cam profile despite the shared B18C name. Because engine swaps are extremely common in this scene, always match the engine stamp against the chassis VIN and service book rather than assuming the fitted engine is original to the car. A DC2 Type R with a swapped-in lower-spec B18C1 GS-R engine is mechanically fine but not equivalent to a numbers-matching Type R and should be priced accordingly.
