Do not assume a later model year is automatically safe, but do weigh it in your favor. The 2015-2017 trucks carry the highest concentration of cracked head / coolant-into-exhaust complaints, so a pressure test and block leak test are mandatory on those regardless of mileage. 2018 onward trucks benefit from the revised Gen 2 engine design and show fewer head failures, but wastegate failure and oil consumption were never fully resolved across any model year, so the same fault-code scan and oil consumption check apply to every truck you look at, whatever the build year.
