Do not judge a used Coyote purely by horsepower badge, judge it by generation and documented recall status. 2011-2014 trucks need a cold-start rattle check for cam phasers and confirmed completion of the 6-speed transmission recalls, since those are the two real weak points of the early engine and drivetrain combination. 2015 onward trucks resolved the phaser tick with revised hardware, and 2018 onward trucks moved to the more robust 10-speed automatic, so later generations are a genuinely easier buy, not just a higher output one. Whatever the year, cooling system documentation and oil change discipline matter more to long term reliability than the generation itself.
