Verify full stamped service history including evidence of the 10-year major service and cambelt replacement
Run a full OBD diagnostic scan checking for VVT cam codes, gearbox faults, and EVAP codes
Test drive in slow urban traffic specifically to detect DCT hesitation, clunking, or jerky low-speed behaviour
Inspect underneath and around the engine bay for oil leaks, coolant weeping, and hose condition
Confirm the car has been used regularly, ultra-low mileage examples that have sat unused for long periods carry higher mechanical risk
Check recall completion status for the underbody heat shield adhesive fire recall against the VIN
Budget a minimum of €5,000-10,000 post-purchase for any outstanding service items before considering the car financially sound

30,000-50,000 km or 10 years
DCT Dual-Clutch Pack
Inspect and service, replace if worn or if the gearbox shows any hesitation or jerky engagement
40,000-80,000 km
Coolant and Brake Fluid
Replace on an age basis regardless of mileage, especially critical on cars that have sat unused for long periods

Underbody Heat Shield Adhesive (Fire Risk)
Adhesive bonding a heat shield near the exhaust on early production cars could ignite under sustained high temperatures, and Ferrari confirmed a number of vehicle fires linked to this on early 458 Italia units.

Do not treat these as one identical engine sold at different power levels. The Speciale's F136 FL has meaningfully different internals (higher compression, lighter rotating assembly, revised cams) so its service and wear profile should be assessed on its own history, not assumed identical to a standard car. For a standard Italia or Spider, the base F136 FB is proven and both share the same maintenance profile, so choose between them on body style rather than any reliability difference. Whichever variant, verified cambelt and major service history matters far more to long term reliability than the specific power figure on the V5 or logbook.
