•Verify DVSA recall completion for EGR cooler fire risk using the vehicle VIN before any purchase
•Check current status of the Customer Care Package (fuel injector / crankcase ventilation) with a BMW dealer using the VIN
•Perform a cold start test and watch for blue smoke indicating failed valve stem seals

Do not choose between these two based on the small hp difference, the failure modes (valve stem seals, timing chain, injector seals) are identical across both tunes. The later N63TU2 cars are worth favouring mainly because a higher proportion of them were built after the Customer Care Package and EGR recall were rolled out at the factory, so documented completion is more likely. Always ask for the engine build date and confirm recall and Customer Care Package status by VIN rather than relying on the advertised power figure.
