•Perform an endoscope inspection through the oil cap to check for timing chain guide cracks, plastic debris, and chain slack before purchasing

Do not choose between the 320i and 328i tunes based on power alone when buying used. The timing chain guide defect is a material and design issue present across the whole N20B20 range regardless of output, and BMW's fix arrived with production changes starting in early 2015. Ask the seller for the engine build date, not the car's registration date, and treat any pre-2015-build engine as needing an endoscope inspection before purchase regardless of whether it is a 320i or 328i.
