Power output does not determine timing chain risk on the N20, production date does. BMW made running changes to the chain tensioner and guides during the production run, so a later-built engine of any output is statistically safer than an early one, regardless of whether it is the 184hp, 218hp, or 245hp tune. For this specific F20 125i pre-LCI (2012-2015), treat every example as pre-revision until proven otherwise.
