•Run the VIN on NHTSA's recall database and confirm both the steering rack and ABS module recalls have been completed with full replacement, not temporary fixes
•During test drive, perform multiple low-speed steering inputs and full-lock maneuvers to feel for any stickiness or resistance in the steering rack
•Test adaptive cruise control on a highway stretch to verify it does not trigger phantom braking events
•Activate all audio zones and speaker positions, confirm amplifier is functioning fully with no dropout
•Request full documented service history and verify oil changes were performed at or below 8,000 km intervals with correct Honda-spec full synthetic
•Inspect engine bay for any turbocharger oil seepage, boost pipe condition, and intercooler integrity, especially on higher-mileage examples
•On cars over 60,000 km, ask about idle quality and any history of misfire codes as an early indicator of intake valve carbon buildup

Steering rack
Confirm full recall replacement was completed, not just greased. Recheck steering feel at every service.
0-30,000 km
ABS/Traction control module
Verify recall completion via VIN check before purchase. Do not drive without confirmation.
0-50,000 km
Turbocharger and intercooler piping
Inspect for oil seepage around turbo seals and boost leaks; ensure oil change history is documented and intervals were respected.
80,000-150,000 km
Intake valves
Plan for a carbon cleaning service (walnut blasting) once idle roughness or misfires appear, more relevant on cars driven mostly short trips or highway cruising without hard use.
60,000-120,000 km
Audio amplifier
Test all audio zones before purchase; check warranty claim history for prior replacement.
10,000-60,000 km

Steering Rack
Sticky steering can cause loss of vehicle control, increasing crash risk. Affects 2023-2025 Acura Integra and related Honda platforms.
ABS / Traction Control Module - Ball Valve
Defective ball valve in the ABS hydraulic unit may impair braking and stability control performance.

✓K-series engine platform has a long-proven track record of mechanical durability across Honda and Acura lineups
✓DOHC valvetrain with roller rockers reduces internal friction and wear
✓Cast iron cylinder sleeves provide long-term bore durability compared with coated aluminum-bore alternatives
✓Coil-on-plug distributorless ignition system reduces ignition maintenance complexity
✓No cylinder deactivation system, avoiding a known source of long-term reliability issues in other modern engines
✓This generation of K20C1 (FL5/Integra Type S) uses a revised connecting rod bearing and improved oil control compared to the early FK8 units, which were subject to Honda's extended warranty for bearing wear
✓Recall coverage for both identified safety issues is dealer-provided at no owner cost

Prefer the FL5-generation engine revision, which the Integra Type S has from day one, over an early FK8 Civic Type R if cross-shopping the wider K20C1 pool. The FK8's early rod bearing issue was resolved by revised bearing metallurgy on FL5-based engines, so the Integra Type S does not carry that specific risk. For the Integra Type S itself there is only one engine tune, so the buying decision comes down to verifying recall completion and service history rather than choosing between power variants.
